👋🏻 Hi, I’m Junaid.

I’m a software engineer based in Bengaluru, India. I’m interested in distributed systems, data platform infrastructure, and in general anything that requires high developer empathy.

I am currently part of the CTO’s office at Fivetran working on applied AI. My focus is on helping AI systems utilize more of the business data and domain knowledge that exist in an enterprise, this includes building a lot of agentic systems and training different kinds of semantic models.

Previously, I spent about five years at Atlan. I joined as an intern and witnessed the journey of building the metadata sync and data lineage platforms.

After leaving Atlan, I co-founded Clu, with my friend Rohan, exploring a context layer implementation for teams that build software with coding agents. You can read more about Clu here.

Writing is another way I work through ideas. It helps me slow down and stay with a question long enough to understand it. I write about systems I have worked on, tools I am building, and questions I linger on for too long.

I have spoken at ArgoCon Europe in Amsterdam, alongside KubeCon 2023, about packaging and distributing Argo Workflows. At DuckCon #5 in Seattle, I spoke about building scalable data pipelines with DuckDB. You can find the slides, recordings, and proposals in my talk archive.

This website is a collection of all of my musings, I find the idea of having a personal corner of the internet pretty romantic. You can read my technical posts, explore the projects behind them, or browse my bookshelf.

I also write more personal essays on my substack that I have pretentiously named Undertones. I’d probably try making a living as a writer if I become part of the permanent underclass.

Away from work, I enjoy reading in Cubbon Park, cycling around Bengaluru, and partake in being the occasional street photographer. Some of those photos are on Unsplash.
